Celebrating Windrush Heritage: A Recognition for Under the Mango Tree
In the wake of Windrush Day celebrations, I am filled with pride as we continue to highlight the rich cultural heritage and profound contributions of the Windrush generation.
It is with great pleasure that I share the news that my book, Under the Mango Tree, has been officially recognised by the Legal Deposit Publications Request.
This recognition is truly humbling, especially as my work has been commended for celebrating cultural diversity and heritage. In addition to Under the Mango Tree and Windrush Memoirs, I have had the privilege of authoring numerous educational books that reflect the stories, lives, and impact of the Windrush generation. With over 30 years of experience in early childhood education, as a former Ofsted inspector, and as someone who holds both a BA and an MA in education, I am dedicated to fostering a deeper appreciation of our diverse cultural backgrounds.
The Agency for Legal Deposit Libraries (ALDL) has requested copies of Under the Mango Tree for inclusion in their prestigious collections. This request is in line with the Legal Deposit Libraries Act 2003 and the Irish Copyright and Related Rights Acts 2000 to 2019, which ensure the preservation and safeguarding of valuable literary works. The ALDL serves five prominent Legal Deposit Libraries, including:
- National Library of Scotland
- The Bodleian Library, Oxford University
- National Library of Wales
- Cambridge University Library
- The Library of Trinity College Dublin
I am honoured to provide five copies of Under the Mango Tree to the ALDL in Edinburgh, ensuring that my work and, more importantly, the stories of the Windrush generation are preserved for future generations to appreciate. This recognition not only highlights the cultural significance of my work but also affirms the importance of celebrating and remembering the contributions of the Windrush generation.
Let us continue to honour and preserve the stories that shape our collective history, ensuring that the invaluable contributions of the Windrush generation are never forgotten.
