Celebrating Resilience & Leadership: A Special Evening with Ade Adepitan

Recently, I had the privilege of attending a special celebration dinner at The Grand Hotel in Birmingham.

The event honoured the incredible legacy of Sir Lenny Henry and welcomed Ade Adepitan MBE as the new Chancellor of Birmingham City University where I am an alumni. It was an inspiring evening that celebrated Sir Lenny’s achievements and looked ahead to the future under Ade’s leadership. Congratulations to both for their remarkable contributions.

During the evening, I had the honour of meeting Ade Adepitan MBE. Ade is not only a Paralympic medalist, TV presenter, and journalist, but he is also a dedicated father and author. His journey has been one of immense resilience, overcoming significant challenges to reach his full potential. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, and raised in East London, Ade contracted polio at just 15 months old, which led to the loss of the use of his legs. Despite this, he defied the odds, becoming a household name in the world of sports and entertainment.

Meeting Ade Adepitan MBE

Ade’s story is one of determination and perseverance, and it resonates deeply with the message we champion at Learn with Lolonyo. His ability to navigate the challenges of growing up with a disability in the 80s and ultimately succeed is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of resilience.

In addition to his work as a TV presenter and athlete, Ade has also released four children’s books based on stories from his childhood in East London. These books offer young readers valuable lessons about overcoming adversity, embracing difference, and the importance of self-belief.

Ade’s journey is a powerful reminder that with resilience, we can reach our full potential, regardless of the obstacles we face. At Learn with Lolonyo, we believe in nurturing this same spirit of determination in every child, helping them to embrace their unique challenges and celebrate their growth, no matter where they start.
